Here's something to look forward to in Toronto this week...
A group of local musicians will be paying tribute to the late Thin Lizzy front-man Phil Lynott this Thursday at The Local on Roncesvalles Avenue.

Singer-songwriter Luke Jackson was initially prompted to put the night together by the rather large artwork in his neighbourhood pub. He said: “There's a mural of Phil Lynott on the wall of The Local, and I could never walk past the place without thinking 'someone should really do a Thin Lizzy night in that place'...and what better night to do it?”
Lynott would have been 60 on August 20th, had he not died as a result of his drink and drug addictions on January 4th 1986 at the age of 36.
The leather trouser-sporting Irishman was the songwriter, bass player and voice of Thin Lizzy. The Irish hard rockers were perhaps best known for their international hit song, “The Boys are back in town” and the 1976 album Jailbreak.
Jackson will be joined on stage by Toronto musicians Marshall Tully, Jason Egan, Josh Hicks, as well as special guest Todd Porter on sax and a slew of guest vocalists.
They'll be playing material from the 1978 Live and Dangerous Album, and passing the 'whiskey jar'. “Live and Dangerous is THE classic Thin Lizzy record for me” says Jackson: “It's the first one I ever got into, and I got into it hard.”
British-Canadian Jackson released his third album ...And Then Some this year, and cites Lynott as an influence: “Phil's music is a reminder of the beauty of simplicity in songwriting. His structures are so simple, and so effective.”
Lynott's legacy lives on with Lizzy tribute nights happening all over the world, including our own annual Toronto Thin Lizzy Celebration put together by Monster Records store owner Roger Costa.
Costa, who announced in May that he is taking a break from the event this year, promises to be in attendance on Thursday, saying on his website: “I hope to see you all there to raise a glass and share some love, 'cause after all, that's what it's all about!”
Meanwhile, Jackson has been pleased by the response, saying: “For a modest tribute night at a small bar we've actually gotten quite a lot of publicity...I think it's going to be a fantastic night!”
